Instructor Contact: kbruck2001@yahoo.com 801-895-8120

Class Description: Are you tired of stitching in the ditch? Maybe you are not quite sure about doing free motion quilting or ruler work? Well, I have the perfect solution for you. We will be using our walking foot, or “dual feed” foot for learning to quilt our own quilts. Students will be empowered to embrace the beauty of imperfection as they learn to quilt their own quilts. See how we can turn a straight stitch or decorative stitches can yield so many different possibilities. Students will also learn how to prep their own quilts and be prepared for quilting them. Students will create samples that will help them be able to decide what they want to quilt where.

When: Thursday, June 12 - 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Skill level: Beginner

Pattern/Kit Fee: 15.00 plus tax. This is for the book I have written.

Supplies/Fabric Requirements:
At least 12 practice quilt sandwiches consisting of two large squares of solid or tone on tone fabric with batting in between. I suggest 12” for the top and 13 – 14” for the batting and back.
Thread to match your fabrics. I suggest a 40 wt polyester thread. It is less linty than cotton. You could use a cotton though. You could also bring both and see which one you like best.
Needles I recommend having some 80/12 and 90/14 topstitch needles.
Thread snips
Fabric marking tool and small acrylic ruler
Sketchbook and pen or pencil for note taking and design sketching.
Can do attitude and geared up to have sew much fun.

Further instructions regarding class preparation will be emailed by your instructor after registration.

Instructor bio:

I started sewing at 9 years old, through 4H. In junior high and high school my favorite class was home economics. I learned hand quilting from my mom. After I got married and started having a family, I sewed for my children and started making quilts. The first quilt I made was cut with scissors and cardboard templates. I wish I had a picture or the quilt, but the quilt was lost in one of our moves and I didn't think of taking pictures. Throughout the years, I have made numerous quilts, some I have pictures of and some I don't. I still love to hand quilt, but it takes a lot of time. I have since learned to quilt with my walking foot, free motion quilting and ruler quilting. After retirement I wanted to teach classes at retreats which I have enjoyed doing, and most recently I have started writing patterns. I have 5 children, 2 in law children and 11 grandchildren.
