The King's Ransom
The King's Ransom - Saundra Cindrich
Instructor Contact: 801-473-8711 paprpcr@gmail.com
Class Description: So called because I imagine it as chests of beautiful jewelry destined to pay a ransom to a king. You might make one of patriotic fabrics and call it America’s Treasure. Call it what you will, this quilt is striking in every way! It is pretty easy to make with four patches, squares in a square and the ever-wonderful flying geese blocks.
Project size: 60" x 60" without borders (This is my quilt but you can make however many blocks you want from table topper or runner all the way up to a king size quilt. And they are so addicting to make you might not want to stop!)
When: Thursday, June 12 - 8:30 10 11:30 am
Skill level: All
Pattern/Kit Fee: $10
Supplies/Fabric:
Rotary cutter (with sharp blade) and mat
A quarter inch foot for your machine
OPTIONAL The Folded Corner Clipper ruler by Creative Grids This is NOT required. It is just the way I like to make flying geese, but you can surely use the drawn pencil line if you want and it works perfectly
A small square up ruler for the flying geese. (My preference is Deb Tucker’s Wing Clipper. Again, this is just the way I like to square up flying geese).
Fabric
Background:
My quilt is totally scrappy except for the use of a single background fabric. When I am using a single background fabric, I tend to use either Kona solids or Moda Bella solids since the dye lots don’t seem to vary at all so if I need more I can always match it perfectly. Since I don’t know what size, you will be making this project I’d suggest you start with a yard or two of a background that, if needed, you can replenish.
You will be cutting 4-1/2” squares cut twice on the diagonal, 2” squares and 3-1/2” x 2”rectangles
Colors:
You can work with scraps, charm packs, fat quarters or yardage if you wish.
The size cuts you will make are 3-1/2” squares, 3-1/2” x 2” rectangles and 2” squares.
Use lots of different fabrics to make your quilt look vibrant and alive.
Further instructions regarding class preparation will be emailed by your instructor after registration.
Instructor bio:
I’d rather sew than cook or clean or weed the garden. I’d rather pet my fabric than a dog. I become almost giddy in a fabric store—been like that since 1994. I love to teach quilting classes more than eating ice cream—and I really do like ice cream! Nothing makes me happier than seeing students in my classes have success in whatever project they are working on.
